Prepare to witness the launch of Dell’s brand new XPS 14z laptop, an ultra-thin and powerful device.

The laptop has a slot-loading DVD burner on the right side of its frame that is just 0.9-inch (23 mm) thin, which makes it so far the thinnest, fully-featured 14-inch laptop in the world.

To be able to create such a thin machine, Dell decided to save some space around the edge of the laptop’s 14-inch, 1366 x 768 resolution display in order to fit it where usually 13.3-inch displays are mounted. The laptop itself measures 13.19 x 9.21 x 0.9-inch (335 x 234 x 23 mm).

The user will also be able to benefit from a 1.3Mp webcam and dual microphones found at the top of the screen, a backlit andspill-resistant keyboard.

The target market of Dell’s new device is business users. The XPS 14z laptop boasts a nice anodized aluminum finish and it will be available in a selection of 2nd Gen Intel Core i5 or i7 dual-core processors with up to 8GB of DDR3 1333Mhz memory.

The users will also be able to equip the laptop with NVIDIA GeForce GT 520M graphics with 1GB of dedicated video memory and an HDD with a capacity of up to 750GB or SSD storage with a capacity of 256GB.

Running Windows 7, the laptop includes an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 Wireless-N and Bluetooth 3.0 technology, a USB 3.0, USB 2.0 and a HDMI 1.4 ports, as well as Mini Display-Port and microphone/audio connectors.

According to the Dell, the 8 cell battery of its laptop will be able to hold for 6 hours. It will hit the US and Canadian markets on November 1 and the rest of the world on November 15, wearing a price tag that starts at $999.
